CENTRAL Coast Residents should be aware that local weather conditions are set to worsen today.
Last night the NSW Government made a disaster declaration for the Central Coast following increased rain with thunderstorms developing overnight.
Adverse conditions include strong and gusty winds of up to 90kms into Friday morning, east/north easterly waves increasing, king tides which are expected to peak by the middle of next week and may affect foreshore roads, along with possible flash flooding.
The State Emergency Service has advised residents at Dora Creek, Yarramolong and Dooralong to prepare to isolate as rainfall is leading to water level rises in local creeks and waterways.
The SES has also advised people in Tuggerah Lake, Budgewoi Lake and Lake Munmorah to stay informed about minor flooding on the Wyong River and Tuggerah Lake.
I have also been advised that a range of schools across the regions have been closed due to the heavy rainfall. As this is a fast-moving situation, I want to encourage all residents to stay up to date with information from the SES.
You can access live updates on the SES website: www.ses.nsw.gov.au or via the Hazards Near Me App.
In relation to coastal erosion on the Central Coast, yesterday the Minister for Recovery signed a Reconstruction Area Order for areas within the Central Coast LGA.
The order has been applied to areas where erosion has impacted properties in the Entrance North and at Wamberal.
This enables the possible use of planning powers that can facilitate temporary emergency coastal erosion works.
The NSW Government is now awaiting further advice from Central Coast Council on the proposed scope of temporary protection works.
