From free sausage sandwiches and fresh fruit to face painting, kids’ crafts, live entertainment from Dianne Lindsay and Peter Simpson, and a plant giveaway supporting local environmental initiatives, the day is designed to bring people together and celebrate the spirit of community service.
The event also gives the Central Coast community a firsthand look at the wide range of Lions programs making a real difference locally and beyond.
Lions Clubs in the Central Coast are behind vital initiatives including Free Trade Day, helping people in need access essential services; Elsie’s Palliative Care Unit, providing comfort to patients at Wyong and Gosford Hospitals; and The Eat Up Program, delivering meals to schoolchildren across New South Wales.
Lions also fund childhood cancer and diabetes research, support the Sydney Eye Hospital, and operate a Laundry Van for people experiencing homelessness.
Lions member Michele Terry is one of the organisers of the event on Sunday and it’s a chance for Lions to share what they do every day.
“People know Lions do good work, but we don’t always shout about it. Well, consider this us shouting,” Ms Terry said.
“Whether you’re looking for a fun day out, an opportunity to give back, or simply a reminder that community spirit is alive and well - Memorial Park is the place to be this Sunday.”
Lions on Safari Month is a nationwide Lions Australia initiative throughout March, with volunteers out and about across the country spotlighting the power of volunteering and encouraging more Australians to get involved.
Some Lions are on a mission to cure childhood cancer and diabetes, others are committed to assisting those impacted by drought and floods and many are simply working together to help people in need in their local community. One thing all Lions have in common is together they are making an incredible difference.
