CROUCH CALLS FOR E-BIKE REGULATION

MEMBER for Terrigal Adam Crouch has renewed calls for stronger regulation of e-bikes following a string of incidents involving anti-social behaviour over the holiday period.

Mr Crouch said the community continues to raise concerns about the rapid growth in e-bike use, particularly involving younger riders and instances of dangerous and anti-social behaviour in public spaces.

“E-bikes are increasingly popular and are giving more people the ability to get around, because they’re convenient and much cheaper than owning a car,” Mr Crouch said.

“However, the anti-social behaviour of a small number of e-bike riders is undermining community safety, and it’s clear the current rules aren’t working.”

Mr Crouch said concerns have also been heightened by reports of a number of young riders presenting to emergency departments with injuries related to e-bike use.

Mr Crouch said the NSW Liberals have put forward a practical policy designed to address these concerns while continuing to support responsible e-bike use.

“Our e-bike policy includes a low-cost licence plate scheme for young riders, commercial e-bike users and shared services, giving police and councils the tools they need to identify repeat offenders and act on dangerous behaviour,” he said.
