As part of the review, the existing 70km/h zone on Terrigal Drive will be reduced to 60km/h, while the current 60km/h section between Bellbird Avenue and Ocean View Drive will be reduced to 50km/h.
Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch has been advocating for a reduction to the 70km/h speed limit following ongoing safety concerns raised by the community over several years.
“For years, we’ve seen accidents and near misses along this section of Terrigal Drive, particularly at the intersections with Jessie Hurley Drive and Serpentine Road,” Mr Crouch said.
“These intersections have been the site of repeated close calls and crashes, so lowering the speed limit will give motorists more time to manoeuvre safely.”
“The community has long called for improvements to this intersection, and this change will help improve safety ahead of its expected upgrade.”
Mr Crouch said the change to the speed limit between Bellbird Avenue and Ocean View Drive was a commonsense decision given the significant pedestrian activity along the corridor.
“We’ve got a playground, skatepark, the Marine Discovery Centre, a Scout Hall and the Terrigal Pub all along this stretch of road,” Mr Crouch said.
“It’s a busy, high-foot-traffic area, so it makes sense to slow traffic down and prioritise safety.”
Variable message signs have been placed on Terrigal Drive to advise motorists of the changes, with new speed zone signage to be installed on April 9 and 20, weather permitting.
